Traveling south on Rt 28 from Petersburg is the popular Spruce Knob/Seneca Rocks National Recreation Area It contains 100,000 acres and West Virginia's highest mountain peak Spruce Knob. It rises 4,863 feet above a dense cover of conifers. Azaleas, mountain laurel, and rhododendron fill these meadows with bright colors early in the summer. Spruce Knob is located in one of the most remote areas of the National Forest. Only accessible after an hour's drive on a narrow gravel road.

One of West Virginia's best known landmarks. A favorite of rock climbers who scale its sheer 900 feet Tuscarora quartzite cliffs. Seneca Rocks is rated as an extreme climb and should only be attempted by experienced mountain climbers. The well marked hiking trails that circumvent its base can be enjoyed by all.

Blackwater Falls State Park is named for the falls of the Blackwater River whose amber-colored waters plunge five stories then twist and tumble through an eight-mile long gorge. The "black" water is a result of tannic acid from fallen hemlock and red spruce needles. The falls are one of the most photographed sites in West Virginia.

Davis, known as the highest incorporated town in the state of West Virginia has an elevation of 3,200 feet.

This provides the area with a cool climate year round. The average temperature during the summer months is 75 degrees. We enjoy a colorful fall foliage and an average snowfall of 160 inches per year. During the spring you will find the wild Rhododendron and Mountain Laurel in bloom.

A community in Tucker County, on the North Fork of the Blackwater River, Thomas, WV, was incorporated in 1892. The town was named for Col. Thomas Beall Davis, pioneer railroad operator and coal-mine owner in the Allegheny Mountains of northern West Virginia. Thomas today is an important tourism center, serving the ski resorts of the Canaan Valley (http://skiingwv.com/canaan-valley/) and hundreds of square miles of the surrounding Monongahela National Forest. The town's national historic district includes shops, galleries, and restaurants.
